Today I want to share with you an excellent web application that accompanies me on a daily basis for publication in LifeBytes, and that helps me maintain the blog lightweight, as far as the loading of images is concerned. It's about the good free service of Kraken:.
Kraken: is a web tool that, as the title of this post says, takes care of optimize images, compressing them to reduce their size and best of all; without losing their quality. First you choose between the two compression modes, 'Advanced'or'Extreme', then upload your images or if you prefer you can drag them to the indicated panel, wait a few seconds until Kraken: do your work and finally you will have at the bottom the report table showing the download links (individual or zip) of your reduced images and the corresponding information on how much size has been saved and the comparison of the original image with the compressed one. You can see a compression report as an example in the following screenshot:

Please note that you can upload images of popular formats such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, simultaneously with a maximum of 20 images and a weight not exceeding 1 MB. Optionally you can load images from a URL with the 'clean' and if your browser is Firefox, you can install a plugin to make the whole process more convenient and faster for you. Soon there will be plugins for other browsers such as Google Chrome, among other new features such as the ability to upload Zip files, full pages and image converters.
