How to recover your Facebook account (hacked)

Horror! You open your favorite browser, click on the Facebook bookmark and proceed to log in as you usually do, but a chilling message tells you that your password or email is not validAfter several attempts, you test from other devices where you had your Facebook "open", but nothing at all, everything indicates that your Facebook account was hacked… Oh! And now who can defend me? you exclaim in an alarming voice ...

Well, this situation, although it seems novel is common and frequent, many users are hacked through different methods such as keyloggers, Phishing, Social engineering, xploits, malware applications installed on Facebook and on the PC, among other techniques depending on the skill of the attacker, who by the way does not necessarily have to be a hacker.

While there are ways to suspect a possible hack by reviewing the unusual activity, trusted browsers and the session logWe generally overlook these options and there are the fatal consequences of ignoring this.

But not all is lost…

If you still have access to your email, quickly request access with the option have you forgotten your password? offered by Facebook itself and closes the session from other devices. But if this doesn't work either and you've enabled 2-Step Verification on your account, you still have one possible last card up your sleeve to put into play: report that your account has been hacked

This link is the key of hope that takes you to the form that can be seen in the previous image, you just have to follow the steps indicated, to start with a click on 'my account is compromised'.

What follows will be to identify your account, placing your email (if it has not been changed), phone number (the same as email), full name or username, for example: http://facebook.com/juanperez

Once your account that has been hacked is identified, you must write your old password or a previous one that you remember, it does not necessarily have to be the last one.

Done this and having indicated your password correctly, you will come back to life with one last option in which you can reset your password in order to regain control of your account.

Of course, as long as you have not previously changed the email and cell phone number that you use to log in.

Final Recommendations:

  • Use passwords of at least 8 characters with lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Don't reuse an old password.
  • Do not use the same password in other services.
  • Do not install unknown applications on your account and delete the ones you do not use.
  • Activate the login approvals both on Facebook and in your email (gmail) and/or enable the Code generator.
  • Choose trusted contacts.
  • Enable the login notifications.
  • Do not access your account from computers and devices that you do not trust.
